Description

A FIJI DANDY. Some of the natives of the Fiji Islands have.a curious way of makingrup their hair, by smearing it with wet lime, which renders the hair brittle. This hair is combed and brushed with the most scrupulous care ; the whole body is also well smeared with cocoa-nut oil, the smell of which makes the close proximity of these men very undesirable. The above is a portrait of a Fiji dandy, and is reproduced from a photograph. It shows him parading on the jetty, carrying in his hand part of an old umbrella, stick, of which he is extremely proud..
