Description

The Dragon Fete at Mons, which is popularly known as that of the Lumecon (Walloon for mail) takes place on Trinity Sunday in each year. The principal scene is enacted on the Grand Place in the centre of the upper town. Here, before an immense crowd of holiday makers, the dragon is supposed to be killed by the representative of Gilles de Chin, the local St. George. Formerly, an old cannon, that was said to have been used at Crecy, figured in the procession, but this fell in pieces some years ago and is no longer included in the show.
